KI4OTK - Amateur Radio & Electronics

Introduction

Back in the 1970's and early 1980's, when I was just a child, I remember fondly spending time with my uncle Greg down in his ham shack. He had this bank of radio equipment, power supplies, an electronics workbench, and so on. On a few occasions, he established QSO with far away contacts and allowed me to say a few words. I never really knew what to say, but I thought it was almost magical.

It had always been a goal in life to achieve my amateur radio license. I put it off for years as a matter of principle due to the requirement to learn Morse Code, which I don't feel is obsolete, but I do feel it is irrelevant if one does not intend to ever work CW in the first place. No other modes get such preferential treatment. Eventually the code requirement was dropped for Technicians, but it wasn't until April 8, 2006 that I finally resigned myself to take the exam and pass it. My call sign is KI4OTK.
